Self-Portrait of the Artist as Art Brut

About Self-Portrait of the Artist as Art Brut:

This work is part of an ongoing series of life-size self-portraits.

Here, my the painting takes its cue from artist-explorer-collector Charles Wilson-Peale’s The Artist in His Museum, a self-portrait wherein he pulls a curtain back to reveal objects signifying his achievements.

Contrastingly, there’s levity to my self-portrait—I’ve framed myself costumed as Art Brut. My curtain is the painting’s surface, which theatrically spills out into the exhibition space.
