Two Women Artists

After Kolar

After Kolar interrelates Czechoslovakian sociopolitical events, art historical narratives and my own Czech family history.

Prompted by finding a collection of nearly 200 small watercolors at a flea market on the outskirts of Prague, made by an unrecognized artist, F.Kolar, the works span 1922 to the late 50’s.

For each work in After Kolar, I paint a ‘cover version’ for every one of Kolar’s original found paintings. Adding collected vernacular material (dated to the same year of Kolar’s original painting), I configure these elements within an artist’s made frame. Each work includes an accompanying audio track that is both narrative and descriptive.
